Ukraine (Unbroken)

Due to continued Russian aggression in Ukraine, hospitals face challenges

in meeting the demand for prosthetics.

The Program

On February 24, 2022, Ukraine experienced a Russian invasion, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War that commenced in 2014. This invasion stands as the most extensive attack on a European nation since World War II and has resulted in a staggering toll, with tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians and hundreds of thousands of military personnel bearing the brunt. Many civilians and soldiers now grapple with injuries, necessitating prosthetics and orthotics to regain a semblance of normalcy.

In the face of Russian aggression, the word "unbroken" has taken on a renewed significance in Ukraine. Despite the challenges, Ukrainians are resolute in safeguarding their homes, land, lives, culture, and identity, aspiring to remain Unbroken.

In August 2023, Nia actively participated in a collaborative initiative, proudly introducing the 3D PrintAbility program at the Unbroken National Rehabilitation Center (Unbroken) in Lviv, Ukraine. The program, overseen by Dr. Amanda Mayo from Sunnybrook Hospital, Dr. Peter Derkach from West Park Healthcare Centre, Dr. Myroslava Romach from The University of Toronto, and Mr. Jerry Evans from Nia Technologies Inc., all hailing from Toronto, Canada.

Simultaneously, Nia conducted on-site training sessions for various orthopaedic clinicians at Unbroken as part of the comprehensive program. The success of this endeavor was made possible through the generous support of the Temerty Foundation in Toronto, Canada.
