Animation of the Nia process. A clinician scans a seated client's residual limb with a handheld scanner. The scan opens as a 3D model on a laptop, where it is rectified, with a heat map showing build-up for relief in blue and push-in in red, and a shallow trim line is set. The design is sent to a 3D printer, which prints the solid socket layer by layer up to the trim line. A standard pyramid adapter is added to the end of the socket, and the client, seated at the start, now walks with the finished prosthesis.
